Frequently Asked Questions

A Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) has advanced, specialized training at the Master’s or Doctorate level. PMHNPs are expert clinicians who assess patients’ psychosocial and physical health, diagnose problems, order and interpret lab tests, and prescribe medications for mental health disorders. Some PMHNPs provide psychotherapy but typically work collaboratively with therapists or provide referrals. One of the advantages of seeing a PMHNP is that they bring a holistic nursing philosophy that focuses on disease prevention and health promotion. Additionally, PMHNPs strive to achieve optimal outcomes by providing cost-effective, compassionate care that prioritizes patient advocacy.

BMIC offers all services virtually via a secure, HIPAA-compliant, audiovisual platform known as telehealth, telemental health, or telepsychiatry. These platforms enable the provider and the patient to interact in real-time.

We provide mental health services for adolescents and women up to age 59 in Florida and Maryland. Unfortunately, telehealth services are unavailable to those outside these two states. If it is determined during the session that the client does not reside within these service areas, the session will end immediately, and the client will be charged a cancellation fee, as it is against applicable state laws. Furthermore, the provider reserves the right to discharge the client from services due to liability risks.

In some situations, our provider will accept adult male patients referred to our practice from their primary care physician, therapist, community or advocacy associations, or sexual assault nurse examiner group (SANE) for medication management treatment of PTSD related to domestic or sexual violence.

BMIC practice focuses on female patients, but we also accept adolescent males aged 13-18.

Due to the individualized requirements of the insurance provider, it is the patient’s responsibility to complete the process with their insurance provider. The office can provide a “superbill” with appropriate CPT and diagnostic codes for each visit. We strongly encourage all patients to follow up with their insurance plan to ensure that telemedicine services are covered.

You can fax previous records to (954) 800-5208 or send them as PDFs through the patient portal, which is secure and HIPAA-compliant. Please do not email patient records as it is unsecured.

Of course not. We welcome everyone regardless of religion or spirituality. We use biblical principles to provide compassionate care, faith, hope, motivation, and love.

Integrative Medicine (IM) is a medical care style combining evidence-based conventional medicine with complementary and alternative therapies. It seeks to bridge the gap between traditional and alternative medicine and emphasizes patient-centered care. Integrative medicine can involve natural remedies, such as nutritional support, supplements, herbal therapies, and mind-body practices, such as meditation and yoga. IM focuses on treating the whole person – mind, body, spirit – and aims to provide personalized, comprehensive, and effective treatment.

Functional Medicine (FM) is a form of healthcare that focuses on understanding the root cause and underlying drivers of chronic health problems. It considers how environmental, dietary, lifestyle, psychological, and genomics factors interact and contributes to health dynamics. It goes beyond the relief of symptoms and aims to address the underlying causes of a condition and restore the body’s natural healing process. FM looks at the patient holistically and employs personalized treatments to support and promote overall health and well-being.

Integrative medicine does not replace traditional medicine. Rather it complements it, offering treatment modalities from multiple healthcare disciplines coexisting with conventional treatment plans.

Lab testing will depend on the nature of your symptoms. When provided, we will review your previous laboratory test results and order appropriate laboratory testing based on your symptoms. These laboratory tests will assess your physiological, nutritional, and biochemical status. In addition, laboratory testing is used to examine possible underlying causes of your symptoms.
